A MUST HAVE RESOURCE FOR EVERY CHRISTIAN CAREGIVER.
REVIEWED chapter on ‘Entering the World of Self-harm & Suicide’ – by – Professor Jayashri Kulkarni, Director – Monash Alfred Psychiatry Research Centre (MAPrc). The Alfred Hospital, Department of Psychiatry, and Monash University, Central Clinical School. MBBS, MPM, FRANZCP, PhD.
“This attempts to integrate basic neurobiology, psychology and Christianity to develop an integrated approach to understand self harm, suicide and ultimately helpful advice for non clinicians to assist people with depression and thoughts of suicide or deliberate self harm.
Written for a lay audience, presumably the Christian community, this work sets out a brief overview of the brain biology that underpins psychological disturbances. It is written in easy to understand language and offers simple models that assist the reader to put self-harm and suicide into a broader biopsychosocial framework. The aim of this is to diminish the stigma and fear associated with self-harm and the tragedy of suicide. This piece certainly succeeds with that goal.” (Prof. J.K).
